Hows About Tellin' A Story
What is the success formula for a popular movie nowadays? A bit of violence, some nudity (preferably female) and explosions should do the trick. The story isn’t important at all anymore. We can only reminisce to the good old days when movies were centralized round a good story. Of course there are still good movies made today but they reach a minor group of people than the so called Hollywood blockbuster.
I would like to take you back in time. Let’s take the period from the 1930s till the 1960s. It was called the Golden Age of Hollywood. During that period the film industry in Hollywood made one classic after another. Stars like Humphrey Bogart, James Stewart, Audrey Hepburn, Lauren Bacall made one success after the other. Most importantly the films weren’t about the special effects but about a good story. Most of the movies were based upon a play. The film depended on good actors, a good director and good script.
Another complaint is that the movies are in black-white. It might just be that you dislike black-white pictures and prefer movies which are colored. However, a thing you shouldn’t do is obstinately avoid those films because you are missing out on such good movies. Also black and white can be quite beautiful. The rain in a black white movie has some magic to it. It’s just like with people, colour doesn’t matter it’s the content that matters.
Finally I would like to ask the world, and then especially the younger generation, to be more open towards movies without any action. Don’t only watch action movies but broaden you horizon. You will be surprised at what you find.
